Introduction
The proposal for this great undertaking was initiated in the 1950s to address severe water scarcity issues in the northern regions of China by diverting water from the south, where water resources are relatively abundant. The South–North Water Transfer Project, also translated as the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, [1] is a multi-decade infrastructure mega-project in China that aims to channel 44.8 cubic kilometers (44.8 billion cubic meters) of fresh water each year [2] from the Yangtze River in southern. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project (SNWDP), the world’s largest water transfer initiative, is designed to address northern China’s acute water scarcity by diverting approximately 45 km 3 of water annually from the south through three major routes, with completion targeted for 2050. This. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the operation of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project, which was initiated to address China's regional water imbalance.
